The two-storey neo-Baroque palace at 28th Molnár Street in the southern part of the city centre was originally completed in 1890. The building was designed by Mór Kallina, whose works include the Buda Vigadó, the Buda Castle Evangelical Church and the statue of St. Gellért. The interior of the palace, which was proportionate in size and restrained yet magnificent, was filled with a spacious staircase and elegantly decorated halls. As a quasi-addition to the building, which was open to the inner courtyard in a U-shape, a much larger fourstorey apartment building was added at the turn of the century from Váci Street. The house on Molnár Street has survived the storms of the 20th century relatively well and, despite some internal alterations, has basically preserved its original form. The house was once occupied by a state design office, which remodeled the interior in the 1980s in a post-modern style according to its own specifications and needs. The courtyard has been covered with a glass roof, but no major architectural changes have been made to the building, which retains its elegant staircase and most of its airy, finely decorated rooms. The facade remains intact, with the original marble and limestone plinths intact.
